The Christian Sacraments of Baptism and Communion

The Christian sacraments, baptism and communion

The two Christian sacraments (the Lord's Supper and baptism) have been misunderstood by Protestants and Roman Catholics alike. Catholics have historically regarded the saving effects of baptism and communion as automatic or mechanical. However, Protestants and evangelicals often go to the opposite extreme, viewing these as merely "symbolic" or playing no role in salvation at all. Before claiming the title of "the New Testament Church," the modern evangelical church would do well to return to the biblical teaching and the Ante-Nicene position regarding baptism and communion.
